Ship steel is short for the ship hull structure steel. It is mainly used to manufacture ocean, coastal and inland waterway transport ship hull, hull and deck etc. Because of odious working condition of ship, the ship hulls need to not only bear chemical corrosion, electrochemical corrosion of sea water and sea creatures, microbiological corrosion; but also bear larger impact waves and alternating load effect. In addition, shipping machining molding is complex; it is strict in hull structure steel. Furthermore, good toughness is the most critical requirements. Moreover, the ship steel should have high strength, good corrosion resistance, weldability, processing form performance and quality surface quality.

Besides, the Mn/C ration should be above 2.5, and the carbon equivalent has strict requirements. Finally, the ship hull is approved by substituting steel to produce. The ship hull steel is divided into general strength and high strength steel. General strength steel includes A, B, C and D four grades; High strength steel has two strength grades and three quality grades: AH32, DH32, EH32, AH36, DH36, and EH36.
